Bay and Corner Curtain-Rod Measurement Guide

Measure bay-window and corner curtain-rod paths by segment, bend, return, carrier travel, and finished drop without structural advice.

SHORT ANSWER

Start here

Measure a bay or corner curtain route as separate straight runs, then add only the bend or corner geometry specified by the selected track or rod system. The curtain travels along that path, which is not the same as the flat front width of the bay. Keep returns, stack, and finished drop separate.

How to measure

  1. 01

Measure the actual working rod or track width; if hardware is not installed, record the window-frame width and your planned side extensions separately.

  2. 02

Measure the drop from the reference point stated for the selected heading—not from an unrelated edge of the window.

  3. 03

Check whether a package contains one panel or a pair, then compare total flat fabric width rather than the label width alone.

  4. 04

Recheck the selected product, tape, hooks, carriers, and fabric before ordering or cutting.

WORKED CALCULATION

Three-segment bay example

Left segment
30 in (76.2 cm)
Center segment
60 in (152.4 cm)
Right segment
30 in (76.2 cm)
Formula30 in + 60 in + 30 in

120 in (304.8 cm) of straight runs before system-specific corner allowances

Use the chosen track or rod documentation for bend, connector, overlap, and return treatment.

Recalculate with your measurements

Record each straight segment

Measure the left return run, center run, and right return run separately. Label the points so the numbers are not reordered when comparing a track drawing or order form.

Use the selected corner geometry

A curved corner piece, bendable track, and joined angled rod do not have interchangeable deductions. Use the manufacturer’s centerline or template method for the chosen system.

Apply fullness to the curtain travel path

Once the usable path is established, calculate flat fabric width or finished pleated coverage according to the heading. The bay’s projected front width alone will understate a wraparound path.

Separate measurement from installation

This guide does not specify drilling, anchors, support spacing, bend radius, load capacity, or structural suitability. Those decisions belong to the exact hardware instructions or a qualified installer.

Before you order or cut

Measure the actual window and selected product. Finished sizes, fullness, header take-up, hardware geometry, and manufacturer tolerances vary. Fabric can shrink, stretch, or behave differently by composition. Measurements do not guarantee fit, privacy, water containment, installation, load capacity, or structural safety. Use the selected product instructions, and have a professional workroom verify expensive custom-fabric orders.

Measurements here combine mathematical results with labeled commercial conventions and design recommendations. Disagreements are kept as ranges rather than averaged into a false standard.
