Size a traverse rod from its required working track span and selected one-way or split draw, then use the exact system specification for master-carrier overlap, returns, stack, heading, and finished drapery length. A generic decorative-rod formula cannot replace the manufacturer order form.

How to measure

    Measure the usable rod or track span and record decorative finials, returns, bends, or overlaps separately.

  2. 02

    Measure the finished drop from the attachment point named for the selected heading to the intended lower endpoint.

  3. 03

    Convert inches and centimeters only after recording the original measurement; use 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters.

    Compare the calculated target with the exact product label, package quantity, heading take-up, and manufacturer tolerance before ordering.

Define the working track span

Record the span the carriers must travel, distinct from decorative finials or fascia. Kirsch documentation separates track dimensions, draw types, headings, carriers, and system-specific order information.

Choose draw direction before panel widths

A one-way draw uses one moving panel; a split draw uses a pair that meets near the center. The master carriers and their overlap affect finished coverage and should come from the selected traverse system.

Measure finished pleated coverage

Traverse rods commonly pair with pleated or ripple-fold headings. Confirm whether the maker wants finished face width, track width, returns, overlaps, or flat cloth; applying fullness to an already pleated order width can double-count fabric.

Keep installation and capacity outside the sizing result

Track selection, mounting surface, fasteners, support spacing, motorization, cord controls, and load capacity are product decisions. This page does not provide structural or installation instructions.
