Curtain Rings and Clips: Size and Count Guide

Check curtain-ring diameter, clip or hook compatibility, attachment-point count, and package quantity without guessing from rod width alone.

SHORT ANSWER

Start here

Choose ring diameter from the rod and product specifications, and choose ring count from the curtain’s attachment points or the manufacturer’s spacing guidance. The count is not determined by window width alone. Current IKEA US examples sell ten rings per package and direct users to the curtain package for the needed count.

How to measure

  1. 01

Measure the usable rod or track span and record decorative finials, returns, bends, or overlaps separately.

  2. 02

Measure the finished drop from the attachment point named for the selected heading to the intended lower endpoint.

  3. 03

Convert inches and centimeters only after recording the original measurement; use 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters.

  4. 04

Compare the calculated target with the exact product label, package quantity, heading take-up, and manufacturer tolerance before ordering.

Recalculate with your measurements

Ring size follows the rod

The inside ring opening must be compatible with the actual pole and any thicker joins. A current IKEA US ring specification says to choose a ring diameter larger than the rod diameter for movement; verify the selected pair rather than using a universal clearance.

Count sewn points before estimating spacing

If a pleated curtain has fixed hooks or a heading tape uses a specified hook layout, those points control the number of rings or gliders. For clips on flat fabric, edge placement and desired fold spacing still need a product-specific plan.

Convert count into package quantity

Divide the required ring count by the package quantity and round up to whole packages. Keep curtain pairs separate when the manufacturer gives a per-curtain count.

Do not infer hardware capacity

Ring count, ring diameter, rod span, and curtain weight are different variables. This guide does not make load, support, installation, or structural recommendations.

Before you order or cut

Measure the actual window and selected product. Finished sizes, fullness, header take-up, hardware geometry, and manufacturer tolerances vary. Fabric can shrink, stretch, or behave differently by composition. Measurements do not guarantee fit, privacy, water containment, installation, load capacity, or structural safety. Use the selected product instructions, and have a professional workroom verify expensive custom-fabric orders.

What this page is based on

Measurements here combine mathematical results with labeled commercial conventions and design recommendations. Disagreements are kept as ranges rather than averaged into a false standard.

  1. SYRLIG curtain ring with clip and hook specificationsIKEA US · reviewed 2026-09-11

Current US specifications list ten rings, clips, and hooks per package, direct shoppers to the curtain package for the needed count, and say the ring diameter must exceed the rod diameter for movement.

  2. VIDGA corner room dividerIKEA US · reviewed 2026-09-11

Current US product guidance identifies the track as suitable for room-divider curtains and gives a 16–38 glider range per curtain based on curtain width and desired pleat fullness.
