Curtain Fullness: Ratios by Heading Style

SHORT ANSWER

Start here

Curtain fullness is total flat fabric width divided by finished coverage width. A useful general range is 1.5× to 2.5×, but pleated and proprietary wave systems must use the workroom, tape, or carrier specification rather than a generic multiplier.

How to measure

    Measure the actual working rod or track width; if hardware is not installed, record the window-frame width and your planned side extensions separately.

    Measure the drop from the reference point stated for the selected heading—not from an unrelated edge of the window.

  3. 03

    Check whether a package contains one panel or a pair, then compare total flat fabric width rather than the label width alone.

  4. 04

    Recheck the selected product, tape, hooks, carriers, and fabric before ordering or cutting.

What 2× fullness means

A 72-inch working rod at 2× fullness uses 144 inches of flat curtain width across all panels. It does not mean each of two panels must be 144 inches wide.

Heading style changes the interpretation

Rod pockets and eyelets display free folds in the flat cloth. Pinch pleats permanently consume fabric. Ripplefold and Wave use snap tape and carrier spacing, so the system chart controls the result.

Fabric changes the look

A stiff, heavy fabric can appear crowded at the same ratio that makes a fine sheer look airy. Test a sample for expensive custom work and confirm the selected heading hardware.

Before you order or cut

Measure the actual window and selected product. Finished sizes, fullness, header take-up, hardware geometry, and manufacturer tolerances vary. Fabric can shrink, stretch, or behave differently by composition. Measurements do not guarantee fit, privacy, water containment, installation, load capacity, or structural safety. Use the selected product instructions, and have a professional workroom verify expensive custom-fabric orders.
